At Thomastown East Primary School we believe that every child has the ability to learn, and that this occurs in a flexible, happy and positive environment.
Within Victoria we work to a set of guidelines, VELS (Victorian Essential Learning Standards), which outline what is crucial for all students to learn from Prep to Year 10. At Thomastown East Primary School we provide students with a wide range of challenging activities in accordance with these guidelines.
As well as the core curriculum areas, Thomastown East provides a range of supporting programs that add an extra dimension to the experiences of the students at school. Extra-curricular activities are offered to complement our regular classroom program. These activities include:
A feature of the curriculum at Thomastown East Primary School is our regular activity days. On these days students are grouped together across the school during events such as Maths, Oral Language and Science Days, Healthy Eating Week, Book Week and Footy Week. Parents are always welcome to join us for these days and this helps to build a positive relationship between children, parents and the teachers.
These are an integral part of the school curriculum with each level participating in activities related to their educational program. From time to time throughout the year special excursions are arranged for the children to attend. Such excursions form an important part of the children’s studies and extend the children’s experiences and understanding. Excursions always lead to follow up work within the classroom. Therefore we strongly encourage all children to attend excursions as they are an important part of their learning. Students in the senior years of their schooling (Grades 4 – 6) participate in a camping program annually at a range of carefully selected venues. During term 4 this year students will be attending a three day camp.
Senior students participate in Summer and Winter inter-school sports with a proud record of achievement at Regional and District level. Students represent the school in bat tennis, rounders, soccer, football, basketball, volleyball and athletics. Students in Prep to Year 2 enjoy informal sports days.
Thomastown East Primary School Council operates an Outside of School Hours Care Program. The aim of the program is to provide a safe and secure environment with fun, worthwhile activities for primary aged children. Parents can be assured that the children are safe and happy and under quality care when placed in our Outside of School Hours Care program.
The program is conducted in the Thomastown East Primary School Outside of School Hours Care multipurpose building. Parents are required to register students for the program and registration forms are available from the Co-ordinator or from the office during school hours.
The Outside of School Hours Care Program incorporates the Active After Schools Community Programs twice weekly for seven weeks per term a variety of activities. Recently the children have had coaches attend in the following activities: Cricket, Basketball, Karate and Tennis.
Snacks are supplied at the Outside of School Hours Care.
