Thomastown East Primary School is located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne near the Dalton Road exit of the Western Ring Road. It has a current enrolment of 315 students. A smaller school population contributes towards a harmonious, family orientated and caring atmosphere which allows staff to provide personalised attention to the students.

Thomastown East Primary School initially opened in 1965 with an enrolment of 267 students. In recent years it has grown from 235-315 students.

The school has a focus on Academic Gain and undertakes a writing Festival each year to highlight the fabulously creative work of each child within the school. The staff, students and community at Thomastown East Primary School are proud of our achievements.

We are a friendly and welcoming school which offers all the opportunities of a larger school in a more personal, friendly and boutique like setting.

Homework is an opportunity for you to be involved in your child’s education.

Along with your child’s teacher, you can help encourage your child to form good homework patterns early on in primary school.

Your child’s teacher will usually tell you about the homework expectations at the start of the year at the ‘Meet the Teachers’ session and give you a copy of the school’s homework policy.

Children are expected to read 15 minutes each night (alone or with a parent) and practice their spelling words or their times tables (based on age and classroom expectations).

Enrolments

To enrol your child at our school:

1. Contact the school office on 9465 3032 and arrange a Tour with the Principal.
2. We will assess eligibility to attend based on our school zone and the Department’s Placement Policy (see the School zones section below for more information)
3. Attend the school tour where / If you are eligible for enrolment we will provide an enrolment pack (including enrolment form)
4. Submit the Enrolment form and additional required documents (outlined below)

Required documents

Required documentation includes:

• Completed enrolment form
• Evidence of identity and date of birth (for example, a birth certificate or passport)
• Immunisation Status Certificate

You will also be required to provide information about:

• your contact details
• emergency contact details
• Evidence of residential address
• health information about your child (such as allergies or illnesses they need to manage)
• other legal orders relating to your child and their welfare (if any)

Prep/Foundation enrolment

Starting school is an exciting time for children, parents and carers. We want to help make the enrolment process as easy as possible for you.  Each year, the department releases the Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents/Carers, with information packs available from the beginning of Term 2 for students commencing foundation/prep the following year. These information packs, and other important information, can be found on the Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) page of the Victorian Government website.

School zones

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information about Victorian school zones.

Students residing in our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.  At times, our school also has additional capacity available to welcome students who are outside of our school zone.

Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places.
